Volunteering with Turtles Kingston
Individuals can sign up to volunteer at any time of the year; however, please know that we actively recruit new volunteers between March and May each year. If you have signed up outside this time period please be patient and we will get back to you by May the following year.
Volunteer Opportunities
-

Volunteer Driver
Help transport injured turtles to Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre in Napanee.
Volunteer drivers are needed from April through October. Turtles are picked up from participating vets around Kingston, Amherstview, and Sydenham.
Communications with Drivers are made via text when an injured turtle is brought into the Turtle Trauma Response Program.
There is no guarantee you will have the opportunity to transport a turtle as drivers are assigned on a first response basis.
-
Turtle Monitor
Monitor nesting turtles and protect turtle nests at our Downtown Kingston study site.
Turtle Monitors are needed each year from the end of May to the beginning of July. Monitors must complete one 2 hour monitoring period each week (for ~6-7 weeks).
Monitors will receive training in May and are required to submit digital forms and protect turtle nests during their weekly monitoring time slot.
-

Community Turtle Ambassador
Help Turtles Kingston educate your community about turtles.
Ambassadors must attend the general turtle crash course, held each spring, and initiate, organize, and facilitate one approved educational activity within your community.
An educational activity could be, but is not limited to: handing out informational flyers, sharing information on a community digital platform, setting up an info booth or workshop.
-

Event Helper - Turtle Awareness Day
Support Turtles Kingston’s annual awareness day by facilitating one of our informational booths, helping set up and take down resources, supporting visitor experience, managing our sale table, or hanging out our raffle tickets / passports.
Volunteers are needed each year for the 1 day event that happens at the end of May. In 2026 Turtle Awareness day will be held on May 30 at Lake Ontario Park from 10 am to 3 pm. -

Informational Booth Support
Help staff Turtles Kingston’s informational booth at various markets and events throughout the spring, summer, and autumn.
Volunteers will be supported in set up and take down of all booths by a Turtles Kingston Team Member. Volunteers are needed for multi-hour markets as well as to accommodate shorter breaks for individuals staffing a booth for a whole event.
A booth manual with frequently asked questions and information about Turtles Kingston and the informational booth are provided.
-

Turtles Kingston Team Member (Coordinator)
We regularly are recruiting coordinators to take lead of our various programs from educational programs to nest protection programs.
Please contact turtleskingston@gmail.com if you would like to be a larger part of the Turtles Kingston team.
All coordinators and team members are volunteers and do not receive any monetary compensation.
-

Event Planning Volunteer
Each year we put together a small team to help coordinate our two annual events - turtle awareness day in May and our fundraiser in September. If you are interested in helping organize either of these events please email turtleskingston@gmail.com
-

Nest Protector Construction Volunteer
Help build the important turtle nest protectors that Turtles Kingston offers to the community.
Volunteers are provided with resources or reimbursed for approved purchases to make a pre-determined number of nest boxes.
Nest boxes are to be completed by June each year so they are available for the turtle nesting season (June-August).
